Modern worship singer/songwriter Brenton Brown is not as well-known by name as some of his fellow artists and worship leaders, but you know his songs. He’s written five of the Top 100 (CCLI) songs that are being sung by millions in churches around the world – songs like “Your Love Is Amazing” and “Lord Reign In Me.” His song “Everlasting God” became one of the most performed songs in the USA in 2007 across all genres of music, the first time a worship song had been recognized with such an honor.
So when we say that his latest CD, Adoration, offers more of the same, it merely indicates that Brown has crafted another set of songs that should easily find its way into Sunday morning services around the globe. In fact, some of them already have. Initially released in the UK under the title Because of Your Love, the album has never been released in the U.S. until now. But this new version, repackaged and expanded, includes a brand-new song, “A Thousand Stars,” a new version of “Adoration,” a remix of “Amazing God” and re-recordings of Brown’s congregational favorites “Holy” and “All Who Are Thirsty.” Collaborations with long-time friends and well-known songwriters like Paul Baloche and Matt Maher don’t hurt, either, as well as guest vocals by Baloche, Maher, Sarah MacIntosh (Chasing Furies), Kathryn Scott and the African Children’s Choir (on “A Thousand Stars”).
Adoration’s strongest tracks include the title cut, “Amazing God,” “Holy” and “Our God Saves.” And while there’s nothing earth-shattering here, it’s hard to find much to criticize in a collection of songs intended to inspire a heart of worship – and that will surely accomplish that mission.
